KERRVILLE Evelyn Ruth Johnson, 90, of Kerrville, Texas, left this world on November 29, 2013 to be with her Lord and Savior and to join her beloved husband, Pastor Neal S. Johnson, who began his eternal life 3 months earlier. Evelyn Evy was born to Myrtle and Henry Wilson on June 29, 1923 in Crookston, Minnesota and spent most of her youth there, growing up with three siblings. Their family was active in the community and at Trinity Lutheran Church. She also sang in the second choir of the famed St. Olaf Choir. After she graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Education and English, she and Neal were married in 1946.
Evy taught English and Spanish in Red Wing, Minnesota while Neal completed his seminary training. Together they served congregations in Scarville, Iowa, Park Forest, Illinois, Austin, Minnesota, Houston, Texas, Sioux City, Iowa and the American Lutheran Churchs Stewardship Administration while in Dallas, Texas and Minneapolis, Minnesota. During these years, Evy taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, Bible Studies, sang in choirs, worked with womens group and youth, and later taught in Lutheran preschools, some of which served children with learning disabilities.
Evy loved to garden, sew, watch football, sing, bird watch, read, and create photo albums of family, friends and travels. She was especially fascinated with Bible archeology and the Holy Land.
