Kerrville Erna Kettler Luckemeyer Guetzlaff, 84, of Kerrville, Texas joined her triune God and Lord on Monday, May 26, 2008 at a local care facility in Kerrville, TX. Born on February 25, 1924 in William Penn, Washington County, Texas, she was the fourth child of Henry and Erna Thane Kettler.Erna was initially educated at William Penn public school followed by attending and graduating from Blinn College in Brenham, Texas with an Associate of Arts degree on June 4, 1943. She then acquired a Teachers Certificate from Southwest Teachers College in San Marcos. Erna taught school in a country, one room, school at Latium, Texas in Washington County until her marriage to Lawrence W. Luckemeyer. They married at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in William Penn on January 25, 1948 after which the newlyweds moved to Kerrville.Erna and her husband became members of the newly formed Holy Cross Lutheran Church and School where she also taught for a short time until her children began arriving. Until her death, she continued to serve her Lord and her church willingly in any manner that she felt she was capable. Erna was a telephone operator for 20 years with the Kerrville Telephone Company, retiring in 1989, about a year before her husband, Lawrence, died on December 13, 1990.After having been a widow for nearly four years and without close family ties in Kerrville, Erna was elated to find a Winter Texas widower from Iowa whose faith was the same as hers, Lutheran. After meeting and discovering there was a mutual attraction, Erna and Harold E. Guetzlaff, decided to share a new life together and so were married on April 29, 1995 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church where they initially met and where their relationship became strengthened.Erna was preceded in death by her parents her sister, Laura Kettler Ashorn her brother, Wilbert Kettler and her first husband, Lawrence Luckemeyer.She is survived by her husband, Harold her children, Cheryl Lynn Mrs. Ray Bauer of Austin, Karen Sue Mrs. Jay Dee Sellers of Buda, Margie Ann Mrs. Bob Hall of Comfort, and David Allen Luckemeyer spouse Paula Arndt of New Braunfels nine grandchildren and one great granddaughter. She is also survived by brothers, Edwin Kettler of Navasota, Herbert Kettler and Raymond Kettler of Brenham sister Lorine Kettler Schroeder of Brenham along with a host of many loving friends and neighbors.Erna is also survived by stepchildren, Pamela Sue Mrs. Richard Hileman of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Ellen Marie Mrs. John Hanna of Parkersburg, Iowa, and Jon Edward Guetzlaff spouse Lou Ann Nagle of Janesville, Iowa as well as six stepgrandchildren and ten stepgreat grandchildren.ation will be held at Kerrville Funeral home from 6 8 PM, Wednesday, May 28, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 29, 2008 in the sanctuary of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Kerrville, Texas. It is desired that memorials be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Kerrville.The family wishes to express their appreciation for the wonderful care that was given to Erna by the Caregivers and the nurses at The Haven and the nurses at Vista Care Hospice, especially Kelly.
