Emogene Armstrong

Kerrville Emogene Ellenbarger Armstrong, 89, passed from this life on April 17, 2010.

Born September 13, 1920 in Spring Valley Arkansas to Mark St. Claire Ellenbarger and Nettie Gibson Ellenbarger, Emogene was the oldest child and the only daughter. She had six brothers.

On May 27, 19, she married John Preston Armstrong and that union lasted almost 53 years, when he passed. They worked as farmers, where Emogene canned meat, fruits and vegetables on a wood burning cookstove. Her house had no running water. She worked hard her entire life.

She worked as a bookkeeper and interior designer in the homebuilding business in Tulsa, OK, and in 1974, she and J.P. moved to Austin, TX to work with J.W. Smith Construction Company. In 1981, they started their own homebuilding business in Austin. J.P. passed away in 1992 after battling cancer.

In 2000, Emogene moved to Boerne, TX to be near her family. She was 80 years old, but still very active. She delighted in helping care for her 4 great grandchildren born that year. She was Ninny to her grandchildren and made quotninnyquot biscuits everytime one of them stopped to visit.

In 2007, Emogenes health started to decline. She moved to Kerrville, where she lived at Sterling House Assisted Living until June 2009. She suffered a bad fall and had to be moved to River Hills Health and Rehab. Emogenes life is reflected in the scripture Ecc. 11:1 quotCast your bread upon the waters, youll never know how it will be returned to youquot.

She was a member of the Kerrville Church of Christ.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, J.P. Armstrong in 1992, her parents, three brothers, John Thomas who was stillborn in 19, Raymond and Kenneth, two of her precious grandchildren, Denise Linn Ellenbarger who was stillborn and her beloved grandson, John Robert Smith.
