KERRVILLE Eleanor Cleone Janes Spencer, 84, left this life to be with her Lord on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at a local hospital. Her memory is cherished by her children, grandchildren, greatgrandson, and by all her extended family and friends, who stretch from around the world.
Cleone was the second of four children. She was born to Jonathan and Ruby Hudson Janes on September 4, 1929 in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
As a girl, she would travel with her church and family to New York state, to attend the Elim Bible Institutes summer Camp Meetings. When she graduated from high school, she returned to New York to study at Elim.
There she met Merritt W. Spencer, the man she would spend the rest of her life with. They were married in 1951. When the Bible College moved to its present location in Lima, NY, Merritt and Cleone moved with it.
Lima would be their home for the next 35 years. Cleone became a fixture in town. She raised three children, worked in the local school district office, worked at the LB Pierce Insurance Agency, and worked part time in the Elim Bible Institutes business office. Coworkers remember her as an elegant dresser, and an inspiration to other women in the workplace. She was lighthearted, with a wonderful sense of humor.
She was also active in the local historical society, local civic groups, and the board of ors at Elim. One former student described her as a grand lady with a twinkle in her eye.
After Merritts retirement, they moved down South this time, to Ingram, Texas. Cleone worked for many years at the Camp Verde General Store and was an active member of Western Hills Baptist Church.
She will be remembered by her children, Mike Spencer of Lake Wells, FL. daughter Karen, grandson Robert Anne Brady children Michael, Christina and her husband Tim Sue Ryttersgaard husband David, son Andrew and her many inlaws, nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and family too numerous to list, but not forgotten.
Cleone is reunited with her loving husband Merritt, and was predeceased by parents Jonathan and Ruby Janes and three siblings, Frances Gamel, Jimmy Janes and Gene Janes, and son in law James Brady.
