AUSTIN Edmund Wister Wis Shannon returned home to his creator on April 19, 2013. He entered this world on July 20, 1924 in Richmond, Texas. The youngest of five children, he grew up in Richmond, Texas and enjoyed a bay house down in Galveston. The family owned the Richmond Coaster and the whole family was involved in the newspaper business. Seeking to serve his country, Wis enlisted in the Army at 18 and served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was a patriot and served his country proudly. He advanced through the ranks from private in the artillery to colonel in military intelligence during his military career. He traveled extensively in the orient. In July 1967 he retired from the military and came to the Texas Hill Country that he loved.
After he retired to his beloved home in Kerrville, he silently helped many organizations and individuals with their needs. He loved to pun and tell elaborate shaggy dog stories and regale his audience with his various war stories. His story telling will be greatly missed.
