Dr. Lawrence Huff, age 94, died June 24, 2016 after complications due to a fall. He was born September 10, 1921, in Madison County, Georgia, the son of Arthur Lawrence Huff and Evie Nelms Huff. During World War II he served in the U. S. Army in North Africa and Europe. On November 22, 1945, he married Elouise Harrell, who preceded him in death. He earned the B. A. and the M. A. degrees from the University of Georgia and the Ph.D from Vanderbilt University. He was an educator and taught successively at the University of Georgia, Georgia State, and Georgia Southern University. In 1983 he retired as head of the Department of English and Philosophy at Georgia Southern. He was the author of numerous articles published in scholarly journals and held memberships in Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi honorary societies. An avid genealogist, he belonged to Sons of the American Revolution and the Huguenot Society of the Founders of Manakin in the Colony of Virginia.

In 1989, Lawrence and Elouise relocated to Kerrville, Texas, to be near their daughter, the late Celia Huff Pound, and her family.

He was a member of the Kerrville First United Methodist Church and the Keystone Sunday School Class.

Lawrence is preceded in death by his wife of sixty-nine years, Elouise Harrell Huff; his daughter, Celia Huff Pound; his granddaughter, Dr. Shannon Houghton; his parents; and his siblings Caulis, Henry, Birt, Recie, and Robert Huff.
He is survived by his daughter Catherine Black of Broomfield, Colorado; son-in-law Dr. Mat Pound, of Ingram, Texas; grandson Sean Neville, his wife Pamela and daughter Caitlyn of Lexington, Massachusetts; granddaughter Heather Warwick and her husband Todd and children Kylie and Justin of Katy, Texas; granddaughter Dr. Carrie Black and her husband Dr. Clayton Mazoue and his son Cameron of New Orleans, Louisiana; grandson Dr. Marty Black, his wife Melissa and children Ethan, Isaac, and Lydia of Concord, New Hampshire; and grandson-in-law, Dr. McGarry Houghton of Seattle, Washington.

A Visitation will be held at Kerrville Funeral Home 6-8:00 PM, Tuesday, June 28, 2016.
Graveside services with military honors will be held 1:00 PM, Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Garden of Memories Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at the Kerrville First United Methodist Church, 321 Thompson Dr., Kerrville, TX 78028 at 2:00 PM, Wednesday with the Reverends Ryan Barnett and Donna Magee officiating. A reception will follow.

Memorials may be made to the Operating Fund of the Kerrville First United Methodist Church, 321 Thompson Dr., Kerrville, Texas 78028.
