SAN ANTONIO Douglas Doug Dean Doubrava, 58, of Kerrville, Texas passed from this life peacefully and surrounded by family at a San Antonio, Texas hospital on Monday, March 24, 2014. Doug was born on March 14, 1956 to Robert James Doubrava, Sr., and Alma Faye Henry Doubrava.
Doug was raised in Beeville, Texas and married the love of his life, Beverly Gum, on June 4, 1976. They resided in Beeville until 1985 when his career with Amoco Production Company lead them to Levelland, Texas. Upon an early retirement decision, Doug returned to school at South Plains College and obtained an Associates Degree in HVAC. In 2001, they moved to Kerrville, Texas where Doug continued his endeavor of working in the heating and air conditioning field.
With a passion for working on cars, he enjoyed making them go er than they actually should. Doug truly enjoyed hunting, fishing, making jerky for family and friends, and cherished family vacations. Of all the many things that made his life complete, he loved making memories with and telling everyone he met about his grandkids. Doug was well known to have never met a stranger, and he enjoyed visiting and telling stories to those who would listen.
Those who passed before Doug are his father, Robert James Doubrava, Sr. brother, John Doubrava and fatherinlaw, Mack Gum.
Leaving to honor and cherish Dougs memory are his wife of 38 years, Beverly Gum Doubrava of Kerrville, Texas daughters, Carrie Stephens and Amy Doubrava, both of Kerrville, Texas, Dea Ann Henson and husband Bryan of Lubbock, Texas six grandchildren, Lauryn Bagwell and husband Dusty, Meagan, Carlie, and Chase Doyle, Braxtyn and Jaxon Henson of Lubbock, Texas mother, Alma Faye Henry Doubrava brothers, Robert James Doubrava, Jr. and wife Margaret, Charles Doubrava and wife Janice sister, Brenda Rudeloff motherinlaw, Betty Gum brotherinlaw, Jerry Gum and wife Dana, along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and a host of many lifelong friends and neighbors who will all truly miss Doug.
Dougs family would like to offer a special thank you to each and every one for their thoughts and prayers during his battle with cancer.
A time of visitation and reflection will held from 6 8 PM, Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Kerrville Funeral Home, 1221 Junction Highway, Kerrville, Texas 78028. A Celebration of Life for Doug will be held at 11 AM, Friday, March 28, 2014 in the Main Chapel of Kerrville Funeral Home with the Rev. Frankie Enloe officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 3250 Fredericksburg Highway, Kerrville, Texas 780258.
In lieu of floral tributes, Memorial Contributions may be forwarded in Dougs memory to the St. Judes Childrens Hospital, St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105 or to the Kurt Knapp Scholarship Fund, 216 County Road 240, McCoy, Texas 78113.
