Dorothy Lee Dean Shaw Wellborn, 96, passed from this life on February 7, 2021 in Fort Worth, Texas. She went to be with the Lord she loved and served. Dorothy was born February 19, 1924 to parents, Bennie Dale and Nannie Lee (Ellis) Dean in south-eastern Kerr County, on the Mason Creek.
She was a member of Western Hills Baptist Church. She previously served as president of the Youth for Christ Mom’s Club in San Antonio and taught Adult and Youth classes for many years at Richmond Ave Baptist and other churches through the years, served as a discussion leader in Bible study Fellowship in San Antonio and Kerrville. One of the loves of her life was the ranch she grew up on. She came back to Kerr County and ran the ranch from 1984 until 2019. The ranch was accepted in the Ranch Hall of fame for being owned for 100 years by members of the Dean Family in 2001.
As a young woman she served her country in World War ll by training on the east coast and then becoming a munitions officer at Wingate, New Mexico where she met her husband Max Shaw, the father of her 3 children.
She maintained a perfect attendance throughout her school years, graduating from Center Point High School in 1941. At the age of 80 she married Cecil Wellborn of the Center Point Class of 1942. They were married for 12 years prior to his death in 2015 – she sorely missed him.
She is preceded in death by both of her husbands; brothers, David Dale and Samuel Earnest and sister, Anna Marie Rogers.
Those left to honor and cherish her memory include sons, Gary Dean Shaw and Robert Dale Shaw and wife, Melody; daughter, Bonnie Higgins; step children, Cecelia Wellborn Samish and Henry Stephen Wellborn and his wife, Sherri ;grandchildren, Stephen, Hannah, Joanna, Suzanna, Jonathan, David Dale, Elizabeth, David Ryan, Derek, and Elliott along with ten great grandchildren.
Visitation will be February 9, 2021 from 5:30pm to 7:00pm at Kerrville Funeral Home, 1221 Junction Highway Kerrville Texas.
Funeral Services will be 2:30pm February 10, 2021 at the Western Hills Baptist Church, 2010 Goat Creek Rd., Kerrville TX- Bro. Frank Pullin officiating, with graveside service to follow at the Center Point Cemetery in Center Point, TX with Dr. Elliott Higgins (grandson) officiating.
