Waco Delbert S. Schmidtke passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2010, at home in Waco, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert Earl Schmidtke and D. Pauline Simonds Schmidtke Booth, nephew T. G. Mangham, soninlaw David Grabber, grandchildren Joe and Henry Grabber.

Delbert was born in Gillespie County on September 6, 1946. Raised in the Hill Country, he graduated from Tivy High School in Kerrville, Texas, in 1965. Shortly after graduation he enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Company B, 871st ENGR BN. He was honorably discharged from the Army and promptly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he rose to Corporal and earned a good conduct medal. Stationed in the 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division, Company D, 2nd Platoon, he courageously served in the Vietnam Conflict from December, 1965, until he was honorably discharged in October, 1971.

Delbert was a passionate patriot whose love of country inspired those around him. He was also a gifted and talented artist with an avid love for the Masters, especially Michelangelo.

He dearly loved his children and grandchildren, as well as his extended family. He was also an enthusiastic history buff with a strong interest in genealogy.

Delbert is survived by four children, Paul wife Lori Schmidtke of Fort Worth, TX, Ben wife Farideh Schmidtke of Waco, TX, Christine Schmidtke of Arlington, TX, and Mary Grabber of Arlington, TX grandchildren, Lucas Schmidtke, Anastasia Schmidtke, Catherine Schmidtke, Sebastian Schmidtke, Malachi Schmidtke, and Anthony Grabber one brother, Robert C. Schmidtke of Fredricksburg, TX two sisters, Thelma Jo Wendel husband Gerald of Fredricksburg, TX, and M. Elaine Brown husband Mike of Midlothian, TX nephews, Roger Wendel, and Clayton Schmidtke neices, Lynn Henshaw and Melissa Tunnel cousins, Ruby Goss, Bobby Goss, and Barbara Duncan and numerous other extended family and friends.

ation will be held at Kerrville Funeral Home on Monday, December 20, 2010, from 6 8 PM.

Funeral Services will be held in the Main Chapel of Kerrville Funeral Home at 10 AM, Tuesday, December 21, 2010, with interment to follow at Bandera Cemetery.
