Kerrville DAVID LEWIS THOMSON, JR. passed away on Friday, March 12, 2010, in Kerrville, Texas. He was born on July 15, 1923 in Thrall, Texas to the late David Lewis Thomson and Roma Mae Cass Thomson.

David Dave or quotButchquot as he was affectionately called graduated from Taylor High School, Taylor, Texas a farming community outside of Austin in May 1941, where he played football for the Taylor Ducks. He was a proud member of the 19381940 football squads that were named Regional and BiDistrict Champions. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in the summer of 1942 and, the following September, he was sworn in as a Seaman Second Class, serving our country while stationed in Burma, China during World War II. Following an Honorable Discharge in March 1946, David attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated from UT Business School on June 3, 1950 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He was an avid and lifelong Longhorn and loved watching his Longhorns play football. He was also passionate about playing golf and spent many a Saturday afternoon on the golf course. He was a devoted, caring and loving husband and father who always put his familys needs before himself.

David married Florence Billie Jean Gregory on January 30, 1949 and they recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. He is survived by his wife, Florence, and their three children, Diana Thomson Denton, of Spring, Texas David Lewis Thomson, III of Austin, Texas and Dan Gregory Thomson of Kerrville, Texas his brother, William Cass Thomson, Sr. of Farmington, New Mexico his grandchildren, Lauren Nicole Denton of Austin, Texas and Ryan Wesley Denton of Spring, Texas and his five nieces and nephews: Jan Blankennagel R. Greg Blankennagel Luanne Thomson Snedaker William Cass Thomson, Jr. and Anita Pollard Watson. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Roma Thomson, and his sister, Florence Anita Thomson.

David was an Accountant by profession and was employed by Texas Casualty Insurance Company in Austin, Texas. Active in St. Johns United Methodist Church in Austin for over 10 years, he served on the Board of Stewards as Secretary and Treasurer. The Thomson family moved to Houston in 1964 where he worked for Maryland Casualty Inc., American General Insurance Company and Draper Insurance Agency, before retiring with his wife, Flo, to Kerrville, Texas in 1994. A lifelong Mason, David received a Certificate honoring him as a Master Mason for 60 years with Austin Masonic Lodge 12, A. F. A. M.

Viewing will be held at Kerrville Funeral Home on Monday, March 15, 2010, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. Private graveside services will be held at CookWalden Capital Parks Cemetery in Austin, Texas on Monday, March 15, 2010, at 3:00 PM.

The Thomson family would like to especially thank Davids caregivers at the Plaza on the River Nursing Home, the doctors and staff at Peterson Memorial Hospital, and Gene Allen at Kerrville Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society or to the Alzheimers Association.
