Dr. Craig W. Norstrom, passed away into his Savior's arms on Thursday, September 27, 2018. Craig was born on November 14, 1927 in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Canada and spent most of his youth in Alberta. He attended Camrose Lutheran College from 1944-1945 and then entered the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets during 1945. With the ending of WWII shortly afterwards, Craig was able to enter medical school at the University of Alberta. After receiving his medical degree and an internship at Calgary General Hospital, Craig practiced medicine in the summer of 1956 at the Chateau Lake Louise. In October 1956 he left Canada to enter a Neurosurgery Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He met the love of his life, Jacqueline Darlene who served as head nurse in the Mayo Clinic ER. They were married in February of 1958, and celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary before Jackie's passing. After completing his fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in 1961, Craig moved to Corpus Christi, Texas to practice neurosurgery until his retirement in 1995. In addition to his education, Craig enjoyed playing hockey. He played the sport in high school at Berwyn, Alberta, and during his time at Camrose Lutheran College. He also played at the University of Alberta for the Faculty of Medicine Hockey Team to which he was Coach and Captain. Craig enjoyed snow skiing and won ''State'' in Senior men 1979 NASTAR race in Steamboat Springs. He also was an avid tennis player. And finally, Craig was a charter member of the South Texas Scandinavian Club, adjunct clinical assistant professor, University of Texas 1972-1993, and received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from his alma mater, Camrose Lutheran College in 1995.
Craig is preceded in death by his loving wife, Jacqueline Darlene, his brother Ross, and his brother, Dale. Craig is survived by four daughters and their spouses: Sandy Adamson (Keith) of Corpus Christi, TX, Pamela Norstrom (Dan) of Boerne, TX, Stacy Harry (Bill) of McKinney, TX and Jennifer Moore (Jeff) of Plano, TX. He is also survived by his sister Donnell of Vancouver, BC, and brother in law, Mike Lady (Linda) of Freemont, CA. Finally, he is survived by ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations in Craig's Honor may be made to the First United Methodist Church at 321 Thompson Dr., Kerrville, TX 78028, or a charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held on Oct 11, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Kerrville at 2 pm.
