Charlotte Coffelt, age 96, of Kerrville, Texas passed away peacefully on January 4, 2025. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no memorial service or celebration of life.
Charlotte was born in 1927 in Iowa to Charles and Effie LaMar. As the eldest of four children, she assumed the role of caregiver to her younger siblings after the untimely passing of her mother. During her school years, she resided at St. Vincent Orphanage in Davenport, Iowa. Charlotte married Louis Coffelt, and together they enjoyed 65 years of marriage until his passing in 2013.
A lifelong educator, Charlotte taught both in and out of the classroom. Her passion for space exploration was evident; especially during the Apollo missions, when she had the unique privilege of sharing actual moon rocks with her 5th-grade students. Paleontology was another shared passion with her husband, Lou. The couple traveled extensively across the country; exploring, excavating, and cataloging countless fossils.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Vanetta Vandello; brother, Ronnie LaMar; and her beloved husband, Louis.
Charlotte is survived by her brother, Charlie LaMar; her five children; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom will miss her deeply. Known for her selflessness and unwavering care for others, Charlotte was, in the words of her family, “the most wonderful mom in the world.”
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to Mercy Home for Boys & Girls of Chicago or Heifer International, reflecting Charlotte’s enduring spirit of kindness and generosity.
Services with integrity, pride, and honor are under the direction of Kerrville Funeral Home. (830) 895-5111
