Charles Switzer

Kerrville Charles Edward Switzer, 74, of Kerrville, passed from this life at a local health care facility on Sunday, July 31, 2011.

Born in Ingram, Kerr Co, Texas on July 27, 1937, he was the son of Fred William and Nerine Parker Switzer.

In his childhood, he was a corker. He loved to explore the caves in the hills behind his home and use to brag about his hidden treasures he had up there. No one will know.

He attended the White School, across the river from his home.

Charley, as everyone called him, joined the US Navy at the age of 16, with his parents written consent, on March 15, 1955. He served 2 years, 9 months and 9 days and was transferred to the Navy Reserves in New Orleans, LA.

He left the Reserves on March 14, 1963 and joined the Merchant Marines, until he was hurt on a ship in 1994. He served as a fireman, boiler man, water tender, oiler, deck engineer, seaman, lifeboat man and pump man.

The Navy was his life, heart and soul. He was a Navy man through and through and loved to talk about the ships.

He traveled the world, visiting places like Japan, the Phillipines, Okinawa, Guam and many other places.

He married Temuni, a Japanese lady, and together they had 3 children, Freddie, Henry and Emily Ann. After they divorced, he married Rosemary Ibeyas and they had a daughter, Victoria.

He had a passion for guns and collected many throughout his life but his pride and joy was his 1970 blue Chevy Pickup that he referred to as quotOle Bluequot.

He is predeceased by his parents.

He is survived by his 4 children, Freddie, Henry and Emily Ann all of Japan and Victoria Switzer of San Antonio, along with many family and friends.

There will be no visitation.

A graveside service will be held at Sunset Cemetery, Mountain Home on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 10AM.
