Charles W. Mann, 71, died on Tuesday September 9th, 2014 in Kerrville, Texas, with his family by his side, voices raised in song as he would have instructed, and which he would no doubt have wished to lead. Chuck died as he lived: courageously, not wanting to allow his health to deter him from his dreams. He died believing he would overcome the results of a stroke that left him paralyzed, unable to eat, and with impaired speech. He did overcome many of the strokes challenges with uncommon determination, will, and drive.
Chuck was born on March 21st, 1943 in Harlingen, Texas to Betty Conley and C. Jordan Mann. He lived in Garwood, McCamey, Columbus, and graduated from Sinton high school in 1961. He continued his education at SMU and graduated from UT Law School in 1968. He practiced law for 46 years in Houston, Corpus Christi, and Edinburg.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 28 years, Sandy, and their two children, Charlie and Willie, who made him quite proud. He is also survived by his brother Cliff Mann Chris, their daughters Emily Fitzner John and Rebecca Mann, all of Tuscon, AZ his sister Margaret Libersat Murray, their children Julien Libersat wife Valerie and son Mathias, Jeff Libersat, and Julie Libersat. He is remembered by his sisterinlaw Sharon Stewart, and brotherinlaw David Stewart Julie and their children Alvie Faulkenberry and Ross Stewart. Also cherishing his memory are numerous cousins, friends and clients.
Chucks last five years would not have been possible without the caring staff of Hilltop Village in Kerrville, his new home after the stroke, nor without the loving advocacy of Lari Aycock and the team at Heart Choices Care Management. The Sinton class of 1961 was also instrumental in his final years through visits, hundreds of cards, and arranging for reunions and belly dancers at Hilltop. Yes, you read that right.
One word alone cannot sum up a life. For those who will remember Chuck, many words may come to mind: passionate, confounding, tender, perfectionist, stubborn, charming, forgiving, wise, brutally honest, drywitted, and erudite and hed be pleased if you had to look that up.
Memorial Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Edinburg on September 13th at 11 am and at Hilltop Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kerrville on September 27th at 11 am.
