Charles Houston Lockhart

It is with deepest sorrow that we announce that Charles “Chuck” Houston Lockhart, age 78, of Kerrville, Texas, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2024, while residing at the Kerrville VA Community Living Center.

Chuck was born in San Antonio, on January 18, 1946, but grew up in Weslaco, Texas. After high school, he went to Pan American College (now UTRGV), where he met the love of his life, Jean, and they married in 1968. One year later, they had a son, Michael. Chuck graduated with his Bachelor of Arts in 1970. 

Chuck began his career as a Marine serving in Vietnam. Upon graduation from college, he became an Air Marshall and later an agent in the newly formed Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). After the DEA, Chuck was unable to remain retired, so he became a correctional officer for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Chuck agreed to move to Ft. Stockton to help with the newly opened unit there. After finally retiring for a second time, Jean and Chuck settled in Kerrville in 2014, fulfilling a life-long dream of theirs. 

Chuck is preceded in death by his wife, Jean, and their son, Michael; his parents, Houston and Teresa Hopkins Lockhart, and his great-nephew, K.C. Klose.

Chuck is survived by his cousins Mary Ann Rushton Hoppe, Nancy Rushton Parrish, Barabara Guillon, and Kaaren Hopkins Reid. He is also survived by four nieces, three great-nieces, one great-nephew, and numerous friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Museum of Western Art in Kerrville, Texas, where he was an avid supporter and volunteer.

A celebration of life will be held at a later time.
