Mrs. Candelaria Velasquez, age 68 of Kerrville, passed away Sunday evening, January 31, 2021, at Peterson Regional Medical Center at 8:00 p.m. surrounded by all of her family.
She was born on February 1, 1952 in Rancho el Roble, San Felipe, Guanajuato, Mexico, a daughter of the late Benito Trujillo and Juana Jasso.
Candelaria was preceded in death by her late father Benito Trujillo, her mother Juana Jasso, brother Juan Trujillo, and sister Conception Trujillo.
She came to the United States in 1971 accompanied by her beloved husband Jose Edwardo Velasquez. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved unconditionally and who had a passion for making others smile and feel as if they were her own. She lived life to the fullest, could win over any crowd, and was very well known for the love and passion in which she put into her cooking career which she started throughout her time working at Torres’ Foods, also known as the tortilla factory for 18 years. She was most famously known for her most sought-after tamales in town. Most importantly, she was immensely devoted to her family and faith, something in which she instilled in all her family. Despite everything, Candelaria fought hard and stayed strong until the very end.
Candelaria is survived by her husband, Jose Edwardo Velasquez; two sons and one daughter in-law, Joe Velasquez and Ramon and Kourtney Velasquez; three daughters and two son in-laws, Mela Velasquez, Tomasa and Jerry Ohern, and Isabel and Anthony Ortiz; fourteen grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three brothers, Robert, Martin, and Jerry Trujillo; and two sisters, Eloisa Cervantes-Trujillo and Gloria Trujillo. She also leaves behind many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.
Viewing will be held at Kerrville Funeral Home on Thursday, February 4, 2021 from 6-8p.m.
Funeral Service will be held at Notre Dame Catholic Church on Friday, February 5, 2021, at 1p.m following with a burial departure at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
