Byron Voss

San Antonio Byron W. Voss, 82, of Kerrville, TX passed away peacefully Friday, March 5, 2004 at a San Antonio hospital. He was born in Tucson, AZ to George E. and Julia Olson Voss on May 7, 1921. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having been discharged twice. Mr. Voss married the love of his life, Ruth Yeager Voss on November 30, 1946 at the Kelly Field Chapel, and they loved each other dearly for 57 years. They moved to Kerrville in April 1955 where he was an employee of Lone Star Gas Company. He retired in April 1974. Mr. Voss learned to fly in New Mexico in 1947, and maintained that hobby for many years. He was a member of the Ultra light Flying Club. He was an avid fisherman, who thought nothing of driving 50 miles or so to go fishing, especially when his friend Buddy would call. He was also very talented with his hands, particularly in carving wood. When he set his mind to do something, nothing would stand in his way. As a spur of the moment type person, he was a practical joker, and all around him knew that they were in for a good time.He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Voss of Kerrville, TX daughter, Kathy Crawford and husband Richard of Houston, TX grandsons, Kevin and Chad Crawford, both of Houston, TX along with a host of many loving friends and neighborsGraveside services will be held at 11AM, Wednesday, March 10, 2004 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, TX including full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the American Heart Association.Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Kerrville Funeral Home.
