Bobby (Joe) Sheffield, 85, was born in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas, Texas on March 3, 1934 and his mom always recalled that it snowed that day! Joe worked in the insurance industry all of his career, retiring from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas in 1992. He married Gaylia White in 1955. They had two children, Valerie & Casey.
After retirement, he and Gaylia took 13 cruises including Alaska and both Eastern & Western Caribbean. The Sheffield's moved to Kerrville to be near their children & grandchildren and have called The Hill Country their home since 2003. They just celebrated 64 years of marriage on March 5, 2019.
He leaves to mourn him his wife, Gaylia of Kerrville and children, Valerie (Ronnie) Miller of Hondo, TX and Casey (Tammy) Sheffield also of Kerrville. He will be greatly missed by his five grandchildren, Katie (Tim) Prout of Edmond, OK, Bailey (Camden) Steele of San Antonio, TX, Lacy (Max) Deane of Tulsa, OK, Riley Miller of San Antonio, TX and Kelsey Sheffield of San Angelo, TX. Joe was blessed with three beautiful great-granddaughters, Audrey (3 yrs) & Addison (1 yr) Prout of Edmond OK and Everly (1 month) Steele of San Antonio, TX.
Joe was a member in good standing of the recovery community for 38 years & 10 months, continuously sober all those years and always willing to carry the message of recovery in his sponsorship of many other men. Joe was a certified computer geek and an avid reader of all things regarding recovery. He was a member of Kerrville First United Methodist Church and absolutely loved his church small group, the Harvesters.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, J.W. Jackson, Johnny Neil Sheffield, his parents and a stillborn daughter.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Kerrville First United Methodist Church with a reception following. Interment will be at First Sam Houston at a later date.
