Kerrville Bobby R. Holt, 88, of Kerrville, passed from this life at his home on December 14, 2011.
Bobby was born on December 5, 1923, 5 minutes after his twin sister, Robbie, on the family farm in Lavon, TX. Life was hard, picking cotton before and after school, but he enjoyed fishing and hunting with his brothers and friends.
After graduating high school, he joined his brother, Leroy, in Elephant Butte, NM at the Civilian Conservation Camp. They were there when Pearl Harbor occurred on December 7, 1941, and he left to join the Air Force.
He spent the next 11 years in the Strategic Air Command, in a fighter squadron, stationed in various places all over the world, including 3 years in the occupation forces in Japan when WWII was over. When back in the states, in 1949, he was assigned to Bergstrom Air Force Base and while on leave, he went to Dallas and met Jean Landry. They were married on February 4, 1950.
They spent 3 years in Austin, and after 11 years in the Air Force, decided to return to civilian life in Dallas. By this time, they had 3 children, a daughter, Sandy and 2 sons, Steve and Stacy.
Bobby started building houses in 1956 and built such quality, and beautiful homes, that even today, there will appear in the Dallas classifieds, under homes for sale, list a quotBobby Holt homequot,such was his reputation as an exceptional builder. He began commercial building and built many business establishments in Dallas, Coppel, Terrell and Rockwall.
Bobby and Jean moved to New Orleans in the 1980s and began a second career with a new business a private investigation agency. They were both licensed by the State of Louisiana and investigated for insurance companies exclusively. They shared a love for New Orleans and their new venture, spending many happy years there.
In 1996, Bobby decided it was time to retire, so they picked the beautiful Hill Country as a place to regain their Texas roots. He loved Kerrville and all the wonderful friends they made here.
Bobbys love of flying didnt end with his Air Force career he purchased his first Cessna in 1961 which began many cherished memories for the family flying all over the United States. He also had a great love for golf starting late in life at the age of 55 and continuing to play and walk 18 holes until 2008. When he turned 85, he decided to cut down to 9 holes. He enjoyed the game but especially the time spent outdoors with his friends at Schreiner Golf Course.
He often remarked that the greatest thing in his life was his wonderful children, of whom he was proud and equally proud of their spouses and grandchildren that followed.
He will be remembered as a good Christian and a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather.
He had 2 older brothers and 3 older sisters, J.B, Leroy, Alene, Robbie and Betty Lou Holt, and his parents, John and Betty Holt, who all preceded him in death.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife, Jean his daughter, Sandy Jean Doyle and her husband, Keith, of Heath, TX his two sons, Steven Ray Holt and his wife, Carol, of Boerne and Vernon Stacy Holt and his wife, Becky, of Austin four granddaughters, Melanie Thompson of Magnolia, AR, Emma Holt and Leah Holt both of Austin and Morgan Hyman of Lubbock, TX along with nieces and nephews.
A celebration will be held at Kerrville Funeral Home on Saturday, December 17, 2011 from 23PM with the family remarks at 2:45PM.
The family suggests that donations in his name be made to Peterson Hospice.
