Bobbie Jean Brophy passed away early Saturday morning, February 25, 2006 at a local care facility after a long illness.She is survived by her husband John, her brother, Jesse Woodard of Lake Jackson, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.She was born March 2, 1920 in Rule, Texas, a town about 60 miles north of Abilene. Her parents were William Newton Woodard and Gertrude McCleskey Woodard.Bobbie served in the Womens Army Corps from September 1, 1943 to January 15, 1946. She was stationed at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, close to Washington D.C. She and her husband, John F. Brophy, were married February 28, 1946. John was an Air Force aircraft pilot at that time. In 1950, after John completed his service in the Air Force, they both enrolled at Ohio State University to finish their educations. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education degree in June 1953, and John received his Master of Business Administration at the same time.Bobbie joined the Tulsa, Oklahoma public school system in 1953 as an art teacher. She taught in an elementary school for a few years and then was transferred to a junior high school. In July 1961, she received her Master of Teaching Arts degree from the University of Tulsa, and became the girls counselor at the junior high school. A relatively short time later she was made an Assistant Director of Personnel for the school system over 100 schools in the system. After another few years, upon retirement of the coordinator of the art education program, Bobbie applied for and was granted that position. In 1982, Bobbie retired from the school system.Bobby had a very engaging personality, a ready smile, and was very successful in her contacts with other people. She always thought in terms of what she could do for other people. She had a wealth of friends.A memorial service is planned for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 2, 2006 at St. Peters Episcopal Church.Flowers may be sent to the church at 320 St. Peter St. Kerrville, Texas 78028.Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Kerrville Funeral Home.
