Comfort Billy quotBillquot C. Ross, 77, of Comfort, passed from this life at his home, surrounded by his family, on September 22, 2010.

Born in Port Lavaca on December 25, 1932, he was the son of Ruben Lenard and Susie Beatrice Price Ross.

After he graduated from high school, he enlisted in the US Air Force, serving during the Korean War, from 19521956 in the Strategic Air Command as an Airborne Operator.

Billy took his love of the Air Force and turned it into a career with the FAA, and worked his way up through the ranks and retired as Assistant Chief at San Antonio International Airport.

He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and playing his guitar, but his greatest passion was fishing.

Billy learned to fly a plane, and was a pilot.

He enjoyed his ranching days.

Billy is predeceased by his parents, daughter, Kimberly Kay Ross, and a brother, Dalton Lawrence Ross.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife of 53 years, Shirley Starks Ross of Comfort his 2 daughters, Sue Ross Bohnert, and her husband, Anthony, of Comfort and Terri Ross of Lockhart, TX. He was blessed with 6 grandchildren, Byron, Lauren, Sarah, Brooke, Kristyn and Garrett and 2 great grandchildren, Ty and Trigger. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Ross Gourley and her husband, Norm, of Blanco and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at the Comfort Baptist Church on Saturday, September 25, 2010 from 1011 AM.

A celebration of his life will follow at the Comfort Baptist Church at 11AM, with committal services at Comfort Cemetery, Comfort.

Donations in his name may be made to Peterson Hospice or the Salvation Army.
