KERRVILLE - Billy Ray Cathey, 79, of Kerrville, TX passed from this life on June 17, 2015 at a local hospital in Kerrville, TX. Bill was born September 3, 1935 to Roy J. Cathey and Izetta Hawkins Cathey.
Bill Cathey was proudly born and raised in the northwestern Oklahoma town of Vici. During his high school years he played baseball and went to state with the basketball team. Upon graduation he would follow his future wife, Phyllis Parker to the western slopes of Colorado, where they would marry and live in Montrose. His job in farm implement sales and service led him to many adventures and explorations on the slopes of the Rockies. He took a four year break from the mountains and the tractors to serve his country in the United State Air Force. These were good years which produced two of his sons. After his tour, he returned to the beauty of the mountains and the farm implement work that he would always love. In 1965, he relocated to Tempe, Arizona and continued his farm implement work in the golden sunshine. He still enjoyed the outdoors and was involved in the Boy Scouts. These years would bring him life- long friends, memories and a third son. Finally, in 1971 the winds of change would bring him to the small town of Kerrville. There were no high mountains and no majestic deserts here but what he found in Kerrville was better. He found a beautiful place full of future friends and confidants. He found a profession that he would follow to the end of and many opportunities to share his faith and love of God. Just moments before he passed in the ICU he finished taking his last business call and then he closed his eyes and peacefully left with the Lord for heaven.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Izetta Cathey; brother, Shirlee Cathey and his Cathey and Hawkins grandparents.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory include his wife, Phyllis; sons, Tim and Cathy, Kerry and Wendy, James and Susan; grandchildren, Bobby and Brittnee, Dusty and Rebekah, Mark And Rolinda, Matthew and Candice, David and Ashley, Stephanie and James, Samatha, Doug, Clay, as well as eleven greatly loved great grandchildren.
