KerrvilleBetty Lou Byrd Smith, age 81, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on December 26, 2007. She was born October 24, 1926 in Miami, Florida to the late Don and Mabelle Byrd. She attended school in Eustis, Florida and attended her 50th school anniversary in Eustis, Florida. She met and married Albert Smith, a soldier in World War II Air Force, stationed in Florida. He went overseas and she stayed in Eustis, worked and made their nest egg for their trip to Texas, Alberts home, which later became hers also. He went to work for an oil company and moved up and down the Gulf coast with three children. In 1965 she went to beauty school in Houma, Louisiana and went to work as a hair dresser, living in Louisiana for 13 years. In 1967 moved back to Texas and worked there also. In 1983 they both retired and moved to Kerrville and built a home and settled down in the beautiful hill country. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Ingram. She loved working for her Lord. She was always involved in many church activities. She was a member of Eastern Star in Kerrville, she was worthy matron in Karnes City, Texas before moving to Kerrville. She enjoyed doing crafts of all kinds.
