Kerrville Betty Mae Job Emmons, 86, of Kerrville, Texas passed fromthis life on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at a local care facility in Kerrville.
Betty was born on October 22, 1927 in Buffalo, NY to Norman Willetts Job, Jr. and Grace Evelyn Barber Job. As a young woman, she sang in choirs and on the radio. She was an active member of the Methodist Church. Her interest in helping others culminated in obtaining her Registered Nursing degree from Buffalo Childrens Hospital in 1951. On August 23, 1951, she married the love of her life, Marvin Benson Ben Emmons and moved to San Antonio, TX. For almost 58 years, they were partners in a wonderful and adventurous life. Together they operated Emmons Marine Biological Company, specializing in scientific specimens for schools and colleges. Mrs. Emmons obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from Trenton State Teachers College in 1964. As a Charge Nurse at Point Pleasant Hospital, Point Pleasant, NJ, she worked long hours and raised her family. She served as a Public Health Nurse with Ocean County, New Jersey and Oshkosh Public Health, Oshkosh, WI. Later, she was in charge of pediatric nursing oversight for the State of Wisconsin.
Traveling the world was a priority. Betty Mae and Ben enjoyed the freedom of living on their sail boat Shadowfax. They sailed across the Atlantic Ocean and embraced the boating life for three years in the Mediterranean. Taking turns on watch, the worst weather always occurred when Betty was at the helm. One storm knocked out a portal and the ocean poured into the cabin, but Betty Mae stood .
Mrs. Emmons walked with Christ and was active in Emmaus. A member of the Hunt United Methodist Church, she enjoyed the church family, participated in Sunday school, tutored the Pathways boys, and helped with summer Bible camp.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
Those left to cherish and honor her memory are her children, Marguerite Belec and her husband James of Ingram, Lydia Olsen and her husband Al of Hallsville, TX and Douglas B. Emmons and his wife Camile of Kona, Hawaii seven grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held next spring.
