KERRVILLE Berta Mae Chambers Widmann passed away at her residence in Kerrville on Wednesday, June 2, 2004.Mrs. Widmann was born at her home in Fort Worth, Texas on March 20, 1911 to James Joseph and Berta Viola Shields Chambers. At the age of fifteen she was employed as a nighttime switchboard operator for Southwestern Bell in Fort Worth where she met her lifelong husband, Harold Henry Widmann, also a telephone company employee. They were married on May 8, 1932 and then made Dallas their home for over 70 years. Mrs. Widmann was a member of the White Rock United Methodist Church for over 50 years and was superintendent of Sunday schools for many years. In 2001 Berta Mae and Harold moved to Kerrville to be closer to family.Berta Mae enjoyed all aspects of her life and her family and friends were an important part of that happiness. She had a special talent for gardening and kept her garden flourishing through all seasons. Her backyard greenhouses, in Dallas and at the farm in Athens, were a favorite retreat. She was a member and past president of the White Rock Garden Club in Dallas. She was especially interested in birding and studied them throughout her life, continuously learning. She was a talented artist and a member and past president of the Klepper Art Club. She was an avid reader, Jack London being her favorite author, and as a result of that interest she and Harold traveled to the land of the midnight sun to visit the legendary Klondike. When she returned she received certification to teach reading to learning disabled adults. She was a lifetime member of the Edwin J. Kiest Chapter 959 of the Order of the Eastern Star.Berta Mae was preceded in death by her husband Harold Henry, daughters Christine Jennieve Widmann, Berta Mae Driver, Anne Rosser soninlaws Boyd Roan Driver and Lauren J. Rosser brothers James Joseph, James Wesley, Howard Bunche, and sister Jennieve Viola Teague.She is survived by her daughter and soninlaw Mary Elizabeth and Mel Goldman of Medina, Texas grandchildren Gary Driver, Phyllis Dawdy, Kerri Sandefur, Chip Driver, Adam Driver, and Laura Rosser of Fort Worth Gary Goldman of Dallas Elizabeth McLemore, and Brian Goldman of Houston eleven greatgrandchildren and two greatgreat grandchildren along with many loving friends.Funeral services will be 11:00AM Saturday, June 5, 2004 at the Kerrville Funeral Home Chapel in Kerrville, TX. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. ation will be from 68:00PM, Friday at the Kerrville Funeral Home.
