KERRVILLE- Bernice Lorraine Clendenen, 92, passed away in Kerrville, Texas on February 23, 2016. She died peacefully in her sleep with family and friends present. She was born on July 27, 1923 on a farm near Tankersly, Texas to Emma Boyd and Herbert White. She grew up on the farm along with her four sisters. Rumor had it she would occasionally sleep out in the cotton patch when she was supposed to be hoeing, but that is unconfirmed.
She married Walter Warren Clendenen on July 29, 1941 in Tankersly, Texas and they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary together in 2011. They had a beautiful and loving relationship throughout their lives.
Bernice lived a long, full life and had rich connections with her family. She was always the first one up in the mornings, sometimes waking her kids by singing, and the last one to bed. She didn't know what it was like to stop, or complain, or even to sit down and relax. She worked in real estate, but family was always most important to her.
Bernice is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Warren, her son Leon, and her sisters Onita and Imogene
Those left to honor and cherish her memory include two sons: Walter Von Clendenen and Gary Wayne Clendenen and their spouses, Connie and Elizabeth, two sisters: Jeffy Ruth Norwood and Mary Dunlap; 10 grandchildren: Janet, Lorie, Von, Aaron, Quentin, Leonda, Llon, Leta, Larry, and Jason; and 22 grandchildren: Luke, Camille, Laura, Zane, Nathan, Daniel, Avry, Emma, Matthew, Marley, Trystan, Wyatt, Oliver, Landon, Lawson, Lyndie, Evan, Cali, Blake, Heather, Cody, Lindsay, and Kyle; and one great granddaughter: Catie.
Special people that gave so much of themselves to Bernice and Warren during their lives and especially near the end include Jerry and Gary Davis, Linda Haslberger, Leota Clendenen, and Dr. Lawrence Ray Smith. We greatly appreciate all the love and support of the members of the Riverside Church of Christ in Kerrville. All of these people greatly enriched the lives of Bernice and Warren.
You will be greatly missed and you live on in our hearts.
