Archie Harrison

KERRVILLE - Archie O. Harrison, 89, of Kerrville, Texas, passed from this life at a local hospital on Thursday, January 22, 2015. He was born February 11, 1925 in Waco, Texas to the late Overton O. and Zelma (Baily) Harrison.

Archie grew up in Waco and attended Waco High School. In September of 1943, he married Audie Sanford. Shortly after marriage, Archie enlisted in the United States Army where fought in World War II and participated in the Battle of Bulge. He received the Purple Heart and many other commendations during his time in the service. He returned home and was hospitalized for many months in El Paso, Texas because of injuries sustained in the war. Upon recovery, he attended Baylor University and graduated in 1953. Archie relocated his family to Houston, Texas and began a career with Exxon/Mobil that lasted for 30 years, retiring in September or 1983.

In 2000, Archie married Donna Blisard and relocated to Kerrville with her until her death in 2010. Declining health caused him to withdraw from some of the activities he so loved such as, the Opera Club and Exxon Retirees, but he continued to enjoy sitting on his front porch "watching the world go by." Archie was a member of Kerrville First United Methodist Church and received lots of visits and encouragement from his church family. He was a kind and gentle man who never had an ill word to speak of anyone. His sense of humor was priceless. His last months at home were enriched and aided by Mary Dalton, Louisa Hernandez, Susan, neighbor Rosemary and Meal on Wheels.

Archie is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna; brother, Earl Dean; and granddaughter, Kris Roach Beal.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his daughter, Sharon Harrison Roach of Humble, Texas; granddaughter, Dianna Roach Clements and husband Jeff of Houston, Texas; great-grandchildren, Christy Lynn Gonzales of Houston, Texas, Darrin King and wife Jessica of Pearland, Texas, Chance Beal of Houston, Texas, Danielle Beal of Montgomery, Texas, Cassidy Beal of Montgomery, Texas along with five step-children and their families.
