Alice Carlson

KERRVILLE - Alice Mae Carlson, 88, of Kerrville, Texas, graduated from this life at her daughter's home with her daughter by her side. She was born in Springfield, Wisconsin on September 27, 1927. She was raised in Strasburg, North Dakota and after graduation from high school at the age of 16 moved with her parents to Minneapolis, Minnesota. This is where she married, raised two children, and lived most of her life. She moved to Kerrville, Texas in 2009 to be near her daughter, Leslie, and son-in-law, Charlie. When her health declined and she was placed on hospice care, she moved in with them in 2014 where she remained until her death January 29, 2016.

She stayed home with her children when they were young helping with Cub Scouts, Camp Fire Girls, Vacation Bible School, and Sunday School. She was a loving and supportive wife and mother, with a kind and gentle spirit. She worked as a secretary to the City Manager and City Council in St. Louis Park, and later as a legal secretary in the Law Department of Dayton-Hudson Corporation. It was important to her to remember friends and family with cards for their birthdays and other important events because sometimes it was the only card they received.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Berthel F. Carlson; her parents, Christopher Swoverland and Lillian Boe Swoverland; and brothers, Vernon, Charles, and Glenn Swoverland.

She is survived by her children, Frederick Carlson and partner Barbara Bishop of Princeton, Minnesota; Leslie Carlson Van Drasek and her husband Charles Van Drasek; grandsons, Chris Van Drasek, Nick Van Drasek and wife Kelly, Michael Carlson, and Stephen Carlson; great grandsons, Elijah and Aiden Van Drasek; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at First Christian Church, 1900 Goat Creek Road, Kerrville with the Rev. Brett Coe officiating. A service in Minnesota will be conducted at a later time.
