Kerrville Alfred K. Carter, 86, of Kerrville, passed from this life at a local health care facility on Thursday, May 14, 2009.

Born in Washington, DC on April 23, 1923, he was the son of Alfred Kyle Goodman and Myrtle Lenora McClery. He had been a resident of Kerrville since 1985.

Mr. Carter served in the US Navy as Seaman, 1ST Class from January 1942 to November 1945. He served an additional 12 years in the Naval Reserve.

On August 28, 1946, Mr. Carter married Erma Boise in Garden City, KS.

In Garden City, he worked for the Civil Service at garden City Air Base as a mechanic. He also worked for Stewine Construction Co, as a foreman, a self employed contractor in Deer Park, TX then went to work for Shell Oil in the refinery for 31 years. On February 1, 1985, he retired and moved to Kerrville, where he and Erma designed and built their home.

He is predeceased by his parents and his beloved wife, Erma.

Those left to cherish and honor his memory are his daughter, Wyanette Harris of Larned, KS and his grandson, Robert Harlow of Parker, CO and 4 great grandchildren.

According to Mr. Carters wishes, services will be private.

In lieu of floral arrangements, monetary donations in his name may be made to Notre Dame Catholic School, Kerrville.
