KERRVILLE Alejandrina Navas Shackelford, 84, of Kerrville, TX passed from this life in Kerrville, TX on Sunday, May 19, 2013. Ale, as all of her friends called her, was born on February 9, 1929 in Joquicingo, Mexico to Amor Navas Valdez and Victoria Lorezana Lara. On August 8, 1981, she married Earl Shackelford, the love of her life.
Ale moved to Kerrville in 1993. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville being involved in many church activities, including: Elder, Presbyterian Women, New Member Committee, the praise and prayer team and numerous Bible study groups. Prior to living in Kerrville, Ale lived in Houston, TX where she was a member of San Pablo Trinity Presbyterian Church and worked as a Montessori teacher until her retirement. She served as a member of the Board of Directors of Proyecto Amistad in Piedras Negras. Ale received the honor of life member of the Presbyterian Women.
Ale always loved nature, all of Gods creation of plants and animals. She had the greenest thumb any of her friends had ever seen. Her plants flourished, and the bloomers flowered earlier and longer than anyone elses. Not long before Ale and Earl moved to Kerrville, a stray black cat had a litter of kittens in their back yard in Houston. Ale adopted the mother cat, who she named Negrita, and found good homes for the kittens. Much later, just as Negrita was growing old and ill after many enjoyable years together for her and Ale, God sent a second black female cat to Ales back yard in Kerrville. Ale promptly adopted this cat too, naming her Muneca. Muneca survives Ale, now happily residing with Ales friend Rose Burton.
Ale was a true prayer warrior and radiated her faith and love of her Lord. She touched the lives of many people with whom she came in contact. She was also extremely proud of her dual USA and Mexico citizenship, as she loved both countries.
Ale is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Earl Shackelford parents, Amor Valdez and Victoria Lara a brother, Alfonso Navas and her very dear nephew, Abraham Talavera.
Those left to honor and cherish her memory are her adopted daughter, Lidia G. Dominguez and husband Manuel brothers, David Navas, Everado Navas, Salvador Navas nephews, Isaac Talavera, Victor Diaz adopted granddaughter, Mayna Dominguez and greatgranddaughter Haniel Cruz. Ale is also survived by good friends, Janell Don Steele, Rose Burton, Beverly Fred Kapelle, Joan Craft and many other dear church family members. Special thanks and appreciation to Dr. Richard B. Johnson and his wonderful staff, Peterson Hospice, hospice nurse Julie HouseRhoda, and the staff and aides at Alternative Health Care who rendered such good care during Ales final months.

Stateside address for memorials would be: Rev. Susanne Frerichs, 801 Forest View Dr., Austin, TX 78746. In the check memo please write, In memory of Ale Shackelford. Another local option that was dear to Ales heart is the Kathleen C. Cailloux Humane Society, 2900 Junction Hwy., Kerrville, TX 78028.
