Aleen Gjernes

Aleen Gjernes, 54, of Kerrville, Texas entered into rest on November 18, 2005 at a local hospital. She is now at peace with her Lord and Savior.Aleen was born October 18, 1951 in Los Angeles, California the daughter of Joseph P. Smithers, II and Virginia L. Smithers. She moved to Thief River Falls, MN at the age of 9. Her mother married Earl B. Gjernes. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls in 1969. She began her career as a Respiratory Therapist in Park Rapids, MN. She was employed by the Veterans Administration Hospital in St Cloud, MN and in Kerrville, TX since 1987. She was generous to a fault, witty, brilliant, philosophical, and flamboyant. For us her friends a new life began the moment we met her. She gave us all a piece of herself every time we saw her, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Throughout her lifes travels and trials, she brought a smile to many, with her extraordinary sense of humor and wonderful stories. She looked beyond peoples imperfections and always saw golden potential. She is preceded in death by her parents, Virginia and Earl Gjernes and Joseph Smithers, II.Survivors include her brother, Jay and his wife Valerie and nephews, Shawn and Marty Gjernes, of Golden Valley, MN brother, Karl Gjernes of Seattle, WA Best friends, Kathy Kleen, Della Commander, Linda Watts, and Theresa Faure and her beloved dogs, Bonnie and Dudley.Honorary Pallbearers will be Shawn Gjernes, Marty Gjernes, Ken Aguirri, Zach Golden, Rick Barrier, Nick Villanueva, and Carlos Garza.Funeral services will be 6:00PM, Tuesday, November 22, 2005 with Chaplain Karen Reed officiating. ation will be prior to service beginning at 5:00PM. Private interment will be held in Thief River Falls, MN at a future date.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Any Baby Can, 213 W. Water Street, Kerrville, Texas 78028.Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Kerrville Funeral Home.
