Mr. A. John Swartz died March 28, 2006 in Fredericksburg, Texas of a sudden heart attack.He was born June 26, 1945 in Manila, Philippines. He was a Presbyterian. John graduated from Buena Vista High School in Sierra Vista, Arizona. He then attended Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona on a band scholarship. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in Math and Chemistry, and also earned a Master of Science in Math. He attended the University of Texas at Austin for a PhD in Math but left to pursue other interests. While at UT he played French Horn in the UT Marching Band. He also attended the University of Alabama in Hunstville. John was an avid French Horn enthusiast. He studied under Herr Stocker, 1st French Horn player in the Stuttgart Symphony. He was a member of the Austin Symphony and loved playing their outdoor concerts. John loved classical music, especially the horn concertos of Mozart Richard Strauss. He loved the work of Sibelius, Richard Wagner, John Philip Souza, and others. He was a truly voracious reader on a variety of topicsfiction, history, WWII and Civil War battle stories, biographies, advanced math computer theoryand could be relied upon for intelligent and irreverent conversation without fail. He was a member of the Central Texas Singles and the Austin Writers League. He loved to Country Western Dance, and to spend time with friends savoring the beauty and majesty of the Texas Hill Country and surrounding lakes. John was a career Computer EngineerProgrammer. He worked on military and aerospace projects before devoting himself to the Texas Department of Human ServicesState Health Services. After retirement he was a substitute teacher for Kerrville ISD. Alexander John Swartz was a beloved son, brother, father, and grandfather, and his childlike joy over music, Texas lakes, ideas, and beautiful women will be sorely missed. John was preceded in death by his father Stanley Purl Swartz, his nephew Steven Cory Swartz, and his grandson Henry Swartz Miller. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Victoria Swartz, his grandson, Joseph Owen Miller, his mother, Carmen M. Swartz, his sister, Missy Swartz, his brothers Stanley P. Swartz II and Steven A. Swartz, 4 nephews, 2 sistersinlaw, and his aunt and uncle.Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 1, 2006 at the Kerrville Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kathryn Morton officiating.
